Debotakhum

In Marma language, the word “Khum” means Waterfall.  Bandarban is called the kingdom of all Khums. In Bandarban, Debotakhum is called the king of all Khum. To the locals it is “Sonakhum” and many also call it “Thanchikhum” in Marma language.  According to the locals, this Khum is about 50-60 feet deep & 600 feet long which is much bigger than Velakhum and much more wild.

Although the name is Debotakhum, no idol (statue of God) of the Hindu Community is found here. This place has a story also behind the name. And the name was taken by the tribe people.

It is known from the indigenous locals here. According to them, there is a huge tortoise or an unnamed animal live in this Khum. Whose weight is more than 80 kg. Many people have seen this unnamed animal or creature with their own eyes in the Khum’s water. They consider this creature to be a God. In bangle the word Debota means “God”.  For which the name of this place is Debotakhum.

Now a day, Debotakhum is very popular tourist sopt for the traveler. Debotakhum is really a redoubtable place where you will find wild nature. You will find the real natural beauty of Bandarban. It is such a heavenly place for traveler.

Debotakhum is situated in Roangchhari upazila of Bandarban. Debotakhum’s trail is as beautiful as it is terrifying. Traveling to Debotakhum is a combo package of trekking, adventure, risk, vela kayaking. This place is absolutely outside the network a different horror wild environment and all around is quite. This Khum in the middle of two big hills is very dark on the inside. In Debotakhum, you can enjoy the current of waters passing by the stones, the chirping of bird, the silence of the environment, the heart touching of natural beauty and riding on raft of bamboo in the middle of two mountain will give you an another level of thrill.

There are 5-6 big and small Jhornas (fountains) around Shilbandha. There are many jhiri around the Jhorna and Paindu canal next to it. There are many big hills around the Jhorna. There are about 100 meters of steep hills on both sides of Debotakhum. Whose name is Sippy Aisuang Hill. Sippy Aisuang is a 2939 feet high hill located on the eastern border of Bandarban on the Indian border.

How to go Bandarban:

Dhaka to bandarban By Bus: At first, you can go to Bandarban from Dhaka by Bus. Many bus companies are provided services of travelling Dhaka to Bandarban such as Eagle, S. Alam, Shanti, Shyamoli, Saudia, Saint Martin etc Paribahans AC & non AC service are available in this route. Those buses fare are TK. 550 top 1200.

Dhaka to Chittagong by Train: There are so many train services departs from Kamalapur , Dhaka for Chittagong. The intercity train Subarna Express, Mohanagar Provati, Karnaphuli Express, Mohanagar Goduli, Sonar Bangla Express, Turna Express etc are available for Chittagong. The fare of those trains is TK.160-1093.

Dhaka to Chittagong by airFrom Dhaka’s Shahjalal International Airport- Biman Bangladesh, United air, Regent Air, Novo Air and US Bangla Air fly daily to Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong. The fare of those air is TK.300-8000.

Chittagong to Bandarban by bus: You can go to Bandarban from Chittagong. Pubali and Purbani Paribahan buses run from Baddarhat to Bandarban. These buses are rented at TK. 200- 150 for per person.

After reaching at Bandarban Town ( Bandarban bus station), you can hire Chander Gari(Jeep)/ CNG/Motor bike/ local bus to Roangchhari. Then walk for an hour and a half on foot.

If you want to go to Debotakhum, first you have to go from Roangchhari to Kachhapchhari Army Camp and trek to Shilbandha Para ( Liragong) with permission. Going to Shilbandha, you have to cross Pong Su Aung Khum first. Debotakhum begins after Pong Su Aung Khum is crossed.

Where will you stay?

You can come to Bandarban city from Debotakhum (Day trip).There are so many hotels, Motels, cottages or resorts in Bandarban town. They are- Sairu Hill Resort, Holiday Inn Resort, Hillside Resort, Hotel Plaza, Venus Resort PVs Ltd, Fanush Resort, Bono Nibash Hill Resort, Nilachol Nilambori Resort, Hotel Night Heaven, Hotel Hillton etc.  According to your budget you will find both cheap and expensive options to stay in those hotels, motels, resorts and cottages.

Where do you eat?

There are some famous hotels to eat in Bandarban. You can go to all those hotels and eat.
